So my backyard is not really very birdy. I don't have a very big yard list, but what I do have is a grevillea. And therefore I have Wattlebirds - they love that sweet nectary goodness!

The grevillea is very conveniently just outside my kitchen window so lately I've been keeping my little secondhand Canon SX50 handy in the kitchen to see what I can capture.
The
Red Wattlebirds always seem to be around, feeding away. These guys are the bigger of the two and, along with their red wattles, have a nice yellow tummy.

I hadn't seen the
Little Wattlebirds for a while but they've recently made a comeback. And both species seem to be sharing the grevillea quite peacefully.

Neither of them really appreciate having the kitchen window opened though and will often retreat to the fig tree when I first peek out.

But they usually get back to their nectar treats pretty quickly...

| Yum! |
I would say that's a mighty fine yard bird! Do those little wattles serve any purpose?
ReplyDeleteI don't know... I don't think so - the Little Wattlebirds don't even have them!
